Fuse box replacement, fitted and certified in a day
An old fuse box or a board with one RCD covering half the house is the most common thing we are asked to put right. We fit a metal RCBO consumer unit with surge protection, test every circuit and notify Building Control for you.
How much does a new fuse box cost in Manchester?
A like-for-like consumer unit change on a typical Manchester semi costs £449 to £649 including VAT in 2026. The price moves with the number of circuits, whether the tails and earthing need upgrading and whether the meter cupboard needs a new enclosure. We give you one written figure after a photo or a short visit and that figure is what you pay.
- Metal consumer unit to BS EN 61439-3
- An RCBO on every circuit, so one fault trips one thing
- Type 2 surge protection as standard
- Main earth and bonding checked and upgraded if needed
- Every circuit tested and results recorded
- Electrical Installation Certificate and Building Control notification

One RCD for half the house, replaced in a day
The family wanted an EV charger and the old board had no room and no proper protection. We fitted a 10-way RCBO board with surge protection, dressed every conductor and labelled each way. Power back on by mid-afternoon, certificate that evening.
From our Google reviews“His price and how quick and efficiently he got the job done was by far the best I could find.”
Fuse box questions

No. There is no law that says an old but working fuse box must go. But if it has rewirable fuses, no RCD protection or a plastic enclosure, an EICR will code it and an insurer or buyer may ask for it to be changed. New boards are far safer and a new board is often needed before a circuit such as an EV charger can be added.
Usually four to six hours. We tell you the exact window when we book and you can ask us to bring a temporary supply for a fridge or router.
An RCD protects a group of circuits, so a fault on one trips them all. An RCBO protects one circuit, so a faulty kettle trips only the kitchen sockets. We fit RCBOs as standard.
Sometimes. Testing every circuit is part of the job and it occasionally shows an existing fault such as a damaged cable. We tell you, price it separately and leave it to you.
Yes. A consumer unit change is notifiable under Part P. We handle the notification for you and pass on the Building Control certificate once the work has been signed off.
