Emergency lighting, fitted and tested to BS 5266
Exit signs, escape route lighting and open-area lighting for shops, offices, restaurants, HMOs and blocks of flats. We design the layout, install it and carry out the tests your fire risk assessment calls for, with the logbook and certificate kept up to date.
What does emergency lighting testing involve, and how much is it?
BS 5266-1 asks for a short function test every month and a full-duration test once a year, when every light must stay on for its rated time, usually three hours. Our annual duration test and certificate costs £120 including VAT for up to 10 fittings, then £8 per extra fitting. New self-contained emergency lights and exit signs are fitted from £95 each, tested and added to your logbook.
- Full 3-hour duration test
- Function test of every light and exit sign
- Batteries and lamps checked, failures priced
- Logbook updated and certificate issued
- Layout checked against your escape routes
- Monthly testing on a rolling contract

Most non-domestic premises, including shops, offices, restaurants, workplaces, and the common areas of HMOs and blocks of flats. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 makes the responsible person accountable, and your fire risk assessment says where it is needed.
A short function test every month and a full-duration test once a year, with the results written in a logbook. We can do both on a rolling contract, or do the annual test and show your staff how to do the monthly one.
Usually the battery or lamp has reached the end of its life. We tell you which fittings failed, price the replacements first and fit them, then retest so your certificate is complete.
For one contract that covers fire alarm panel servicing, extinguishers and emergency lighting, our sister company Praetor Fire & Security looks after that, with the same team behind the phone.
Yes. We design emergency lighting into shop and restaurant fit-outs from the start, so it is fitted, tested and certified with the rest of the installation before you open.
